The
Archipelago Los Roques is constituted by coralline formations
that have grown on a submarine plateau. The difference the
deepness and strams between the central lagoon and the slopes
of this giant plateau, has allowed the expansion of coralline
communities very diverse between them. The diver will find
compacted coral reefs with a very dense and varied coral
covers, areas covered by sponge, soft corals and isolated
colonies of petrreos corals, unevenly slopes with caves that
go to the open sea all the way long through the Barrera Sur
and rocks and cracks inhabited by big fished.
Thanks
to the prohibition of the industrial fishing and netting all
the environments of the archipielago have abundant and varied
tropical marine fauna almost untouched. In Los Roques you can
find almost all the species of the Caribbean coral and have
been reported over 300 species of fishes. Moreover, it
highlights in the Caribbean due to its abundant lobsters,
crabs and snails.
The
typical characteristics of the ecology of the Archipielago,
the preservation and protection of its reefs and its strict
regulations for diving make it a paradise for the sport
divers. It has been very little visited and it is prohibited
the massive diving in its waters. The diving groups are
restricted to 12 people and do not dive in the park more than
three at the same time. Every diving place may be visited only
every four days.
The
water temperature oscilate between the 24° and 28° centigrades.
The visibility varies between 15 and 60 mts. The interest
places for diving are between 8 and 60 meters deep.
